China To Boosts Flights Between Cambodia and China and To Provide Assistance in Building Infrastructure

PHNOM PENH: Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for the resumption of flights between Cambodia and China to strengthen ties between the two nations.

During a bilateral telephone meeting between Prime Minister Hun Sen on Friday,18 March, Chinese President Xi Jinping has said that China will provide additional assistance to Cambodia in building infrastructure, especially roads construction,schools, etc. to promote relations and the Cambodian economy. He has also called for more flights between Cambodia and China.

During a special summit to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the ASEAN-China Partnership on 22 November 2021, Prime Minister Hun Sen has requested the President of the People's Republic of China for the superpower to reopen travel between China and ASEAN, however, at that time there was no confirmation from the Chinese President.

But this answer seems to be positive for Cambodia in the meeting between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cambodia and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China in early December 2021, then Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has said that he will encourage tourism and more Chinese investments in Cambodia and consider opening all direct flights between the two countries, as well as facilitating the return of Cambodian students to study in China.
